They want to bring down Amaechi- Commissioner

The Rivers Commissioner of Information stated this on Monday.
The Rivers State Government has condemned the suspension of the State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, describing it as a “witch-hunt’
Mr. Amaechi was suspended by the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, on Monday after an emergency meeting.

The state government described the suspension as nothing but a political witch-hunt.
The state’s position was conveyed by the Commissioner of Information, Ibim Semenitari, in a brief statement made available to PREMIUM TIMES on Monday in Abuja.
The commissioner said the state government is worried by the development.
“We are concerned as we believe this is political witch hunt,” she said, adding that “it is worrisome, because the reason given is the suspension of the Obio Akpor council”.
According to Ms. Semenitari, the reason given by the NWC for the suspension order is not tenable because it is “purely a legislative matter and done in accordance to the laws of local government councils in Rivers State.”
The NWC had after an emergency meeting on Monday announced the suspension of Mr. Amaechi for contravening “Articles 58 1 (b), (c ), (h) and (m) of the PDP Constitution following his refusal to obey the lawful directive of the Rivers State Executive Committee to rescind his decision dissolving the elected Executive Council of Obiokpor Local Government Area of Rivers State”.
