European Union has criticised the
National Assembly for passing the law
criminalising same-sex marriages in
Nigerian.
Representative of the Union in Nigeria,
Ms Catherine Ashton, said in a statement
in Abuja, Monday, that although the
union does not support same sex marriage
nor oppose it, it was against making it
a crime.
She said: “EU seeks neither to promote
nor discourage same sex marriages, but
has been clear it opposes discrimination
or any form of legislation that
persecutes someone on the basis of
sexual orientation.”
