Nigeria’s flag bearers in CAF
Confederations Cup Enugu Rangers are
through to the Group phase of the
competition after battling to a goalless
draw on Sunday evening away to Tunisia’s
CS Sfaxien.
The Flying Antelopes who had won the first
leg 1-0 a fortnight ago in Enugu thus
progressed with a 1-0 aggregate.
Sunday’s progress was hard earned for
Rangers who encounter several setbacks
before the crucial second leg clash.
Apart from losing four of their key
players to the Super Eagles and one other
to the Flying Eagles camp respectively in
Germany and France, injury and card
offenses saw Rangers traveling to Tunisia
with a highly depleted squad.
However, against all odds, Rangers saw off
the challenge posed by their host and thus
kept Nigeria’s flag flying in Africa club
competition.
Sanusi Sanni, a striker with Rangers, who
failed to make the trip to Tunisia owing
to the injury suffered in the first leg of
the game, told PREMIUM TIMES online from
Enugu he was pleased to hear his team made
it despite all odds.
“I am very happy, very happy” the striker
simply offered.
Meanwhile Rangers were promised N6m if
indeed they cross the sfaxien hurdle and
make the group stage of the CAF
Confederations Cup.
