Confusion as bride fails to turn up for wedding

There was drama in Ado Ekiti on Saturday as a bride failed to turn up at the Cathedral Church of Emmanuel, Okesa, Ado Ekiti, for her planned wedding ceremony.

The news of the incident got to town late on Saturday afternoon with sources contending that the groom was already in church, waiting in vain for the arrival of his bride.

But at the Cathedral, the bride was nowhere to be found and it was gathered that the Cathedral Administrator, who had gone out earlier in the morning got back to his residence at the time the supposed wedding was to take place, changed his clothes and went out again.

A source at the cathedral said “it was then we knew that something is wrong and people had been coming here since around noon and we have been telling them that the wedding has been postponed.”

On why the wedding was put off, the source hinted that “we heard that it has something to do with the bride, who we learnt has a problem, the type of which we cannot decipher.”

But sources in the town alleged that the bride, an indigene of Ado Ekiti, was already living with a man, but was alleged to have been telling her groom that she had been informed that her lover was a relation and that she could not marry him.

The Dean of the church, Very Revd. F.O. Bankole confirmed the incident, saying the issue had been on for some time but no one knew it would escalate to this level.

The news about the town also had it that the would-be groom, who they claimed hails from Ifaki in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of the state, had waited in vain for the arrival of the bride until his friends allegedly visited the lady’s residence and were said to have vandalised the place.
