Alamieyeseigha Ridicules Obasanjo At National Conference

Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Solomon Alamieyeseigha on Monday ridiculed former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
According to Alamieyeseigha, the one time Head of State shielded some oil thieves in the country during his administration between 1999 to 2007.
He also declared that half of Nigerian oil was stolen daily with full knowledge of foreign embassies.

JAMB: Plateau parents lament costly scratch card

Some parents and guardians in Plateau have described as “exorbitant,” the N1, 500 they were being charged by JAMB for scratch card to access the examination result.
The parents, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria in Jos, Pakshin and other towns of Plateau accused the examination body of extorting money from students and parents with all manners of charges.

40 terrorists die trying to free captured members

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said no fewer than 40 terrorists died while trying to free their captured members in an encounter with troops in the outskirts of Bulanbuli, Borno.

This is contained in a statement issued by Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, Director of Defence Information in Abuja on Friday.

Police arrests three kingpins over Mushin clashes

The police has arrested three suspected kingpins whose gang had been terrorising residents in Mushin area of Lagos.The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ngozi Braide, said the that three members of the gangs were already in police custody.
On 21 April, a group of suspected hoodlums invaded eight streets in Mushin Local Government and destroyed more than 30 vehicles.

Woman bites pregnant neighbour after fight over burning of incense

A pregnant woman in Abuja was attacked by a neighbour after the duo had an argument about the burning of incense.
The pregnant woman, identified simply as Victoria, is said to have complained to her neighbour, Mummy Sekirat that the latter’s constant burning of incense at their Gwarimpa residence made her nauseous due to her condition.
Mummy Sekirat, whose husband works in the same office as Victoria’s, however took offence to this and attacked pregnant Victoria biting her and hitting her on the head.

Sports- Green on World list

The Nigeria Football Federation technical sub-committee has decried a report that the NFF and Coach Stephen Keshi lied to Nigerians about the provisional list of Super Eagles for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals.

The report had claimed that Coach Keshi did not submit any list at Tuesday's Technical Committee meeting and that the NFF and Keshi tried to manage 'a bad case'.

"There was no bad case at all. We met with Coach Keshi and we discussed the programme of preparation for the World Cup, and everyonewas happy.

"It was wrong for anyone to say that NFF and Keshi lied to Nigerians.We are responsible citizens and diligent in what we do, and will never take the nation and its people for a ride,''said barrister Chris Green who heads the sub-committee.

Green revealed that Keshi indeed submitted a 38-man list.

'As we said, Coach Keshi is making more consultations and the list will be released next week.

We have not defaulted in any way, because the deadline for the submission of provisional list of 30 players to remains May 13," Green said at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja.

Three Chinese nationals arrested in Lagos

The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) arrested three Chinese nationals and closed their factory for allegedly assembling substandard phones.

The SON enforcement team, led by  Engr Bede Obayi, said the factory was located at Allen Ikeja in Lagos.

Christian group wants Taraba Governor removed

The Taraba state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) called for the removal of the Acting Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, accusing him of responsibility in the ongoing killings in the state.

The association called on the State House of Assembly to, as a matter of urgency, impeach him and President Goodluck Jonathan to remove the Acting Governor for his alleged failure to protect human lives.

According to the association, instead protecting human lives the acting governor "has become a murderer himself through the use of Islamic militants to shade innocent blood in the state."

The Katsina State Environmental Protection Agency (KSEPA) has commenced the clearance of drainages and spraying anti-mosquito chemicals in all parts of the state.

According to the Executive Director of the agency, Alhaji Yunusa Charanchi,  the measure became necessary to control the outbreak of malaria.

He blamed poor and unhygienic environment as the cause of the outbreak of the disease.

"We have embarked on enlightenment campaign in collaboration with directors of health of all local government to educate people on proper cleaning of environment".
