Christian group wants Taraba Governor removed

The Taraba state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) called for the removal of the Acting Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, accusing him of responsibility in the ongoing killings in the state.

The association called on the State House of Assembly to, as a matter of urgency, impeach him and President Goodluck Jonathan to remove the Acting Governor for his alleged failure to protect human lives.

According to the association, instead protecting human lives the acting governor "has become a murderer himself through the use of Islamic militants to shade innocent blood in the state."

Briefing journalists in its secretariat in Abuja, the state Chairman of the association, Bishop Timothy Yahaya, said, “We are calling on the members of the State House of Assembly to reconsider their steps and be pro-active by initiating moves to immediately impeach the Acting Governor.”

The association described the ongoing killings in the state as an “organized plots to exterminate Christian in the state”.

They observed that since the acting governor came there has been crisis in the state”.

They alleged that the Acting Governor is deeply involved in the ongoing crisis.

“Under Garba Umar sluttering have being the order day in the state. The Acting Governor is solely responsible for the crime that is going on in state.”

The association further alleged that the killings and destruction going on are only being visited on Christian community.

“Several towns and villages belonging to only Christians have been attacked, destroyed and many people have been killed while few that survive now live like destitute where they are taking refuge”.
