A former governor of Ogun State, Mr. Gbenga Daniel, has said the Peoples Democratic Party lost the governorship election to the All Progressives Congress on Saturday because the party failed to reconcile aggrieved members, causing them to defect to other parties.
He said this at Iperu-Remo in Ikenne Local Government area of Ogun State on Sunday during Labour Party’s summit.
Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the APC defeated the PDP candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore by over 100,000 votes
Daniel described the outcome of the election as a ‘political tsunami.’
According to Daniel, the lesson of the election is that peoples’ power is the supreme power and “I have no doubt in my mind that the people of this federal constituency will do what they have to do to ensure that the Labour Party coasts away to victory.”
He also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for creating the atmosphere which engendered free and fair election in the country.
He said, “I want to congratulate President Jonathan for allowing a free and fair election, let me tell you the history of election in the last two years, because human memory is short.
“In Ondo state, despite the fact that Federal Government belongs to the PDP, that election was won by Labour Party, in Edo state, despite the fact that this president is PDP, it was the ACN at that time who won the election.
“When we got to Ekiti state, the PDP won the election, when we got to Anambra, APGA won the election and on Saturday the President did not say his party must win by all means. This shows that this President is a free, fair and good President, I therefore congratulate him.”
