Louis van Gaal has confirmed England striker Wayne Rooney will be Manchester United's captain for the coming season.
Rooney captained the side during the home win over Valencia, with his selection a real confidence boost for the striker.
Louis van Gaal has told United's website why he selected Rooney, and feel he is ideally suited for the role.
"For me it's always very important the choice of captain. Wayne has shown a great attitude towards everything he does. I have been very impressed by his professionalism and his attitude to training and to my philosophy.
